Before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I worked for many years in healthcare as an emergency and critical care nurse and first responder. I also teach nursing at the college level. I decided to become a PMHNP because I wanted to make a bigger impact for my patients. In my first year as a PMHNP, I helped launch an MAT program and served as the main provider.
