I'm Anthony Wilhite (they/them), an LMHC trained at Columbia University, Teachers College, with dual master's degrees in Psychological Counseling and Mental Health Counseling. My approach is liberation-focused and relational — I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and creative adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, identity, grief, and shame. I create a warm, culturally-affirming space where you can show up fully as yourself. I use EFT, Psychodynamic therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, MBCT, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy — all adapted to what you and your specific journey actually need.
Choosing a therapist is a daunting task. Do you go down a rabbit hole googling various types of therapy and online profiles or do you go with your gut? That's up to you. I will tell you that extensive research asserts that success in therapy is not dependent upon the strategies or modalities the clinician employs, but on the strength of the therapeutic relationship. Is the therapeutic relationship a positive one? Do you feel heard and supported? Does this person understand me? Do we click?
I have been a psychotherapist over 34 years to individuals & couples. I address hurt, sadness, anger, anxiety & depression & the loss of emotional contact in your vital relationships. Painful loss can arise from traumatic shock, & from the non-traumatic experiences of growing up. I can help you identify your true needs, so that you can repair your connection with those you love. Healing is in the therapeutic relationship & the skills I can teach you that can enable you to live a freer life.
I work with high achieving, type A women. Together, you and I will create ways to stop being a people pleaser, have more time for yourself, find balance instead of burnout, feel joy, and create joy for yourself and those around you. Get rid of the guilt and the exhaustion from focusing on everyone but yourself. Learn what makes you happy! What makes you thrive! Learn holistic, self-care that makes you feel amazing.
I am a Master's level psychotherapist, with a second degree, a Master's in Social Work (LCSW). My areas of specialization include; trauma informed work through a family systems lens, including treating sexual abuse , and other forms of abuse and treating related PTSD.
I also have expertise in working with couples and addressing the impact of family history that each partner brings into the relationship which may be creating conflict.
When working with couples I am very mindful of the importance of balancing support so that both people feel that they are equally heard.
